L/CPL Robert J. Slattery, Det #206, "SCUTTLEBUTT NEWS", Jun 2022 - #5
MCL Meeting of June 1st, 2022

The meeting was an informative one. It started out with the paymaster Debbie and the Chaplain John absent. There were no new applications for membership but we did have a new guest. Lt. Shannon Ziccarello, US Army was a guest at the meeting. She shared her background. She also marched with the Detachment in the Memorial Day parade. Hector Schorno was present indicated he was ‘resigning’ his position District Vice Commandant with the State MCL. Hector said he has enjoyed coming to our meetings and commended the Detachment for all that we do and all our members.

The report of any “Member or Member’s Family sick or in distress” was given and we were told Dave Katz’s wife, Carol, was due to go home, but now has Covid. So, she’ll be in the hospital for another week.Dave is doing alright and he called Charlene to Thank the Detachment for the cards.Member Ted Jemas shared that his wife has been sick and has been in and out of the hospital. And member Bob Dante fell recently and apparently is doing better.

We missed a very opportunistic time to make some needed money. Then a discussion took place regarding Rose Outings. These also are opportunities for us to do fund raising. It’s felt that we have to come together and chip in and get some rose outings done.

Dominick was the lead for the Saturday, May 21 (the day after we got back from Washington DC.) Lake Hopatcong Block Party, but came down with Covid. So the MCL was not present. We missed a very opportunistic time to make some needed money. Then a discussion took place regarding Rose Outings. These also are opportunities for us to do fund raising. It’s felt that we have to come together and chip in and get some rose outings done.

Discussion took place regarding needing members to ‘step up’ and help out. Steve Ferman suggested a ‘Group Text’ to alert members if an issue comes up where additional help is needed. With that, someone could have possibly stepped in to help out that particular day. Steve Ferman also ‘volunteered’ to become the Rose Outing Chairperson. Let’s hear it for Steve and let’s start chipping in.

Gunny Monaco told us about the 8th & I bus trip. It was a great success and those who did not go, missed out on a wonderful time. He mentioned that the Detachment may be invited to a Holiday Party at the Commandants House. More to come as it becomes available. He also thanked Tom Miller for stepping in to help with the bus trip.

MC is helping out an individual with 24 hour care that is needed. In the works is a donation to a DEA Agent/Marine who recently passed by suicide. Gunny is awaiting more information as to what the family needs are. Paul Brown made a motion to help this family. Tom Miller suggested $1,000. Jim Loizides seconded the motion. All were in favor.

The Golf Outing – mark your calendar for Thursday, September 15 at Picatinny Golf Club. 11:30 shotgun start. We need golfers, volunteers, prizes for tricky tray and silent auction. Everyone is asked to solicit for prizes, if possible. NO car sponsor confirmed as of yet. Steve Ferman offered to contact his car dealership. Brochures were available for members. Pick some up at the next meeting and get a foursome together.

2 applications for graduating High School Seniors were submitted. They were from Corinne Campbell (Granddaughter of Don Campbell) and Dylana McGinely (daughter of Patrick McGinley). The Colonel made a motion to award $750 to each candidate. Steve Ferman seconded the motion. All were in favor. We also had 2 applications for currently enrolled Post High School students come in.
