The Slattery Detachment was invited down to a gathering at the Commandant of the Marine Corps house on May 20th. Sixteen of the group rode down to Washington DC on a coach bus and arrived early enough that they could grab a bite to eat on 8th Street. Then it was over to the gathering.
After the gathering of important people at the Commandants, we were provided quality seats for the "Evening Parade" at the 8th & I Barracks. It was a very nice show and topped off the day. The picture shown is the group as we arrived.
The bus ride was nice and there were snacks, soda, beer and Girl Scout cookies both on the way down and back. We left at just after noon and arrived back at the American Legion hall just after 3AM the next morning. Gunny Mario Monico provided the bus and all the arrangements. A special "Thanks" should go to him and his beautiful wife, Jessica, for being our hosts.
