Honoring L/Cpl Robert J. Slattery
L/Cpl Robert J. Slattery was a Radio Man (MOS 2511) with H&S Company 2nd Battalion 3rd Marine Regiment 81MM mortar Platoon.
He grew up in Whippany, NJ and enlisted with the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was killed in action at a fire base named Gio Linh in the Quang Tri Province in South Vietnam on July 6, 1967. His memory is kept alive every July 6th with a ceremony at the American Legion Post in Whippany.
This July 6th, 2022 the Detachment was honored by the presence of his brother Michael who participated in the Ceremony which consists of a history of Robert presented by SgtMaj Eddie Neas who was in the same Platoon as Robert in Parris Island Boot Camp. A wreath was placed by Eddie Neas and Michael Slattery.
