Charlene Cosgrove-Bowie and John Andrews handled The 2021 golf outing. It was the 14th L/Cpl Chris Cosgrove Golf Outing and probably one of the greatest. Char reported that they made about $20,000 for the days event (final number still to come). Maybe a one day event but many months of planning went into it.
It started out not looking great weatherwise as it was predicted to have scattered rain (30%), but only a light mist pre-start was the only thing felt. There were approximately 136 golfers there and start time was set for 11:30. Retired Col.Anthony Lanza joined us for the first few hours and helped with the setup.
Pre start time was filled with setting up the over 40 gift baskets, putting hole sponsor signs out, waters and Thank you bags for the golfers, registering the participants and having an early lunch of hot dogs, hamburgers, potatoe salad, beans and all the trimmings. Of course the coffee, soda and beer went along with the cookie tray. The registrants all received a purple shirt which will look great at Easter time as well as all the time. Shirts were donated by Steve & Nancy Bliss (MCL) and were obtained from Alfred's Sports Shop in Madison. The owner there, Frank Rucci, is the Uncle of one of the Marines who served in Iraq with Chris, Remi Wojdala.
The gift baskets were again, as usual, looking great thanks to all the donations given by various businesses member and friends solicited. I can’t name the donators/solicitors but Jimmy Grawehr, John Andrews, Debbie Burkland and Liz Hackett brought in a bunch each. Char did an outstanding job in presenting the baskets - beautiful, beautiful. And, the gifts were outstanding. The hole in one car wasn’t, it was a motorcycle this year.
We had a total of 5 Chow Hall Sponsors this year - VFW 5351, American Legion Post 155, DB Andriola Architectural Design, Mike & Maureen McCorry & Dave Katz Family. Four were given a matted and framed print of Tom’s latest painting “Red Tailed Hawk.” Char had a personal book made for Dave Katz and Family in memory of his sister Rose Katz Brotzky who passed away earlier this year. These items were SPECIAL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT THANK YOU gifts. Enjoying the great meal were not only the 136 golfers but an additional 35 dinner only guests.
