Summit Award: Evan Brown
Venturing Crew 59 is proud to announce that Evan Brown of Caldwell, New
Jersey, has received the award of Summit! Evan will be recognized at a
ceremony on August 29, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Congregation Agudath Israel, 20
Academy Rd, Caldwell, NJ. On behalf of the Crew Committee, I invite you to
join us for the ceremony.
For those not familiar with the Venturing program. Venturing is an
inclusive program through the Boy Scouts of America for males and females
aged 14-20. The Summit Award is the highest award of Venturing. The
Summit Award goes to those Venturers who have matured in their personal
direction, skill and life competencies, and who have accepted the
responsibility to mentor others and serve in their communities in a lasting
Evan has been a member of the BSA Venturing Crew 59 since 2018. While a
member of his crew he has served as Treasurer, Vice President of Programs,
Vice President of Administration and President. He has planned numerous
overnight trips, outings, and volunteer opportunities for the crew. He
volunteered to be on the National Youth Leadership Training staff, after
attending the training himself previously. He also served as President of
the Northern New Jersey Council Venturing Officer's Association, responsible
for overseeing approximately 250 Venturers from 15 Venturing Crews. He was
also awarded the Venturing Leadership Award in 2021 (one of two Venturers in
the Council to achieve this recognition).
For his Summit project this past year, Evan led a team that designed,
planned, built and installed an outdoor classroom at Congregation Agudath
Israel, a project that was meaningful for him both due to his connection to
the Synagogue, and for the need that it addressed during the pandemic. The
outdoor classroom will be used for years to come by students attending
Evan is a rising senior at James Caldwell High School in West Caldwell, New
Jersey. He is a member of the Jazz Band, Pep Band, Sax Ensemble, Model UN,
Key Club, National Honor Society, Captain of the Varsity Tennis Team, and
member of the Varsity Cross Country and Indoor Track Teams.
When not in school, doing homework, volunteering or involved with a scouting
activity, Evan coaches three sports for the town recreation department,
teaches Hebrew School and works at a local Art Studio.
Evan is pursuing an appointment to attend the United States Military Academy
at West Point, or the United States Naval Academy where he will pursue a
degree in engineering.
