December Zoom Meeting

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions on holding meetings of more than 25 by the state of NJ, our December Detachment meeting was cancelled. The Detachment Officers and Key Committee members held a Zoom Video Conference call on 30 November. Below is what we discussed and some important items or projects that we are working on.

We as a detachment need to be more involved in what we all do. We need to be more gung-ho and work as a team.

It means Working Together?ó?Working in Harmony

WE ARE NOT A CLUB AND WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS MAKE SURE WE HONOR AND PAY OUR RESPECTS TO THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO CAME BEFORE US AND TO THOSE DETACHMENT MEMBERS WHO HAVE LEFT US OVER THE YEARS

  • Our Detachment Sending Marines Home for the Holidays is going well. It has been very well received, both by two units at CLNC and various Veteransí Organizations we partner with and a few other NJ MCL Detachments. Donations now are over $10,000 to include $7,500 coming in from a private donor, $1,000 from the MCLEF. A Knights of Columbus council is paying for three airfares. They are also getting NJ channel 12 involved when a Marine from Bergenfield arrives at Newark on 18 December and pay for transportation. A golf event I was at last weekend, heard about what we are doing and is sending $1,200 to help with this. This has taken off really well and could be a yearly program. This could replace what we used to do on our hospital visits a few years ago. Currently we have ten Marines and one Air Force service member (son of an I&I Staff member) we are planning to help. We have also donated $5,000 from Marines Care account to the Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) at CLNC for the Single Marine Program. Flyer is attached.
  • Detachment Social in January? This will not happen; we cannot hold it outside and New Jersey restrictions on crowds because of Covid-19 is still an issue. We will plan to set up a date after the new year.
  • We need to nominate a Marine of the Year.
  • Toys4Tots update. We need to schedule a meeting with I&I Staff at Picatinny. Keith Butler what do you have?
  • It has been suggested we change city location of Detachment PO Box from W Caldwell to Whippany. Will look at this in January. This will require address changes on business cards, recruiting posters etc.,
  • I would like to rearrange our Detachment Wall in the bar downstairs. John Andrews will look into this and give his recommendations.
  • We need to know where we stand on the scholarship committee. I understand we have a few applications.
  • Any information on the Marine in Golf Company 2/25 who needs some financial assistance. He is sleeping in his car.
  • Detachmentís Roster dated 30 September 2020 is looking good. If any members information changes, we need to know ASAP so our Paymaster can send the membership dues transmittal/change of information form to National.
  • We need to update our Detachment Committee list with members who will work each committee. This will be worked on by our Senior Vice Commandant. Working this but with no real face to face meetings, it is tough to accomplish.
  • Are there any potential dates for the Rose Outings or are we still on hold? Bob Stalzer replied that there were no potential dates at the last meeting.
  • Steve Ferman and I met with a company and have picked out a few new embroidered items for the Detachment; Long and short sleeve shirts, jackets, wind breakers and pull overs in a few different colors.
  • We need another large wall/storage locker. We will look at this after the new year.
  • I want to wish all Detachment Members and their Families a very Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Holiday season and wish everyone a Happy New Year. Stay Healthy and Keep Safe.

    Semper Fi,

    Neas Out
