Commandant's Corner

By the time everyone reads these comments, the 2020 election will be over, HOPEFULLY. Halloween has passed us by and will now look forward to celebrating the Holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, and Kwanzaa the next two months. Before we know it, 2021 will be here. I know, we all can’t want to for 2021 to start.

The Covid-19 virus is still with us and who knows for how long. I just hope and wish that all of our Detachment members and your families are safe and healthy.

At 0ur last Detachment meeting, the installation of the new Detachment Officers for 2021 was led by the Department of NJ Marine Corps League. The Installation Team consisted of Senior Vice Commandant, John Cleary, District 9 Vice Sal Cenicacelaya and District 3 Vice, Jason Hauck. The Department of NJ Commandant Joe D’Angelo and Assistant District 9 Vice, Hector Schorno, were also in attendance. After the installation, dinner was served for all to enjoy. We had a good turnout and 35 Members attended the meeting. I hope to see some new faces at the next meeting on November 4th.

I have accepted the position of Commandant, Michael Lewis will be the Senior Vice Commandant, Paul Brown will be Junior Vice Commandant and Michael Dougherty will be our Judge Advocate. These were all elected positions and we have a Good Group to lead us into 2021.

The appointed positions are Adjutant Jim Loizides, Paymaster Debbie Burkland and Sergeant at Arms is Tony Oszmianski. Congratulations to all and we all look forward to a Great year.

We will also be able to help Veterans’ organizations and families who could use a little assistance. The Marine Corps Reserve Toys4Tots program will be kicking off in November. We will be looking for volunteers to help Golf Company 2/25 at Picatinny Arsenal with this very worthwhile program.

We are hoping for new ideas and participation from all our members. We need to be a “Gung Ho” Detachment that does all it can do for the men and women who wear or who have worn the uniform of our U.S. Military service, not just the Marine Corps and Navy.

We also need to be there for the families and help support the other Veterans’ Organizations with which we partner.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4th. The meeting starts at 730 pm I hope to see many of you at there.

Stay Safe, Be Careful and Keep Healthy to you and your families in the coming weeks.

Semper Fi,
Neas Out

“Teamwork”

Troops should not be encouraged to foster a spirit of jealousy and unjust distraction towards other arms of the service, where all are mutually dependent and mutually interested, with functions differing in character but not in importance.
