A Day with Bayer

Seven members of the Slattery Detachment met at Bayers National Headquarters in Whippany on Wednesday, December 12 for the "Annual Bayer Toys for Tots Gala." The day started out with the members (John Andrews, Eddie & Linda Neas, Anthony Fiorentino, Jim Loizides, Steve Ferman and Tom Miller) arriving at 11:30 for a meeting with the Bayer officers (Lorraine Zales, Marylou Panzano, Kim Herig and Steve Kadin) and other T4T program Bayer employee volunteers and the local media. After photos and interviews with the huge mound of toys the group was treated to a delicious lunch hosted by Marylou and the Bayer group.

Marylou gave us the yearly upbeat of the Bayer news including a new cancer drug that is showing very promising results especially with children. It is a drug for fighting cancer in patients living with hemophilia A. She said that the FDA had approved Jivi® for the routine prophylactic treatment of hemophilia A in previously treated adults and adolescents 12 years of age or older. It is a huge positive step for Bayer.

Bayer’s Veteran employee program B.R.A.V.E sponsored the toy drive which was led by Lorraine and Steve. A presentation check was made to the Toys for Tots Program to the two Marines who were present (Major Luke Pernotto and 1st Sgt. Eduardo Ascencio). Another check for the Slattery Marines Care Program was presented and the Slattery members accepted it for the Marines Care Program.

After the program, the group loaded a panel truck that the Marines had brought to Bayer. There were so many gifts/toys that they all did not all fit in. Later, the truck came back and picked them up. A huge haul for the Marines which is the usual from a company that goes out of its way to help veterans and children. Thanks Bayer, Lorraine, Marylou and Steve for all that you do and have done.

It was a typical 5-star day for all of us at Bayer for the fifth year in a row.

Semper Fi,

Tom Miller
