L/CPL Robert J. Slattery, Marine Corps League Det #206, NEWSLETTER, Jan 2019 - 14

When Bob Dante and I arrived we found the first Sargent from Golf company and bit overwhelmed with all the toys being dropped off, so we volunteered our services to help them load our pick up truck as well as help them load the thousands of toys left at the gate on Friday. Luckily the rain held off for the working party of Two old veterans, as they played Santaís helpers.

On behalf of the Golf Company Staff, we can't thank enough for the Reinforcements that showed up at the right time and the right place. Thank you for lending a hand with the Chaos on Friday. We were definitely overwhelmed as the good people of New Jersey dropped off their toy donations to our Toys for Tots campaign. As they tried to overrun the Marines at Picatinny Arsenal, reinforcements from the Marine Corps League and other volunteers showed up and assisted without hesitation; as good Marines and Sailors do and continue to do time and time again. Just to throw a few numbers out there. From 1000 to 1600 on Friday, close 15,000 toys showed up out of nowhere. As we were outnumbered quickly, our fellow Marines from the Marine Corps League stepped up to the challenge and helped. I feel humble and donít have the words to express how grateful we felt to see a sign of relief. Thank you all for everything you folks have done to this Unit and for everything you will continue to do. Semper Fidelis, First Sergeant Ascencio, Eduardo
