Commandant's Corner

Greetings and hope that you like hot weather. The first “Heat Wave” was in full bloom when we  held the Rose Outing at ShopRite in Cedar Knolls. I’m happy to announce the weather didn’t keep 9 members and the son of another from doing their part. I was surprised that Benji Tucker came out and spent 3 to 4 hours in the heat of the day to help us and our veterans. It was truly a blessing to see.

We do not have any further outings this summer with the next one scheduled for September 15th at Ott Miller Chevrolet (formerly Konner Chevrolet) in West Caldwell. That one is a good time and I’ve already marked it on my calendar. Give Bob or Anthony a call and let them know you’ll be there.

The next big event we have to think about is the Golf Outing on July 25th which we discussed at the July 10th meeting. It will probably be over by the time this newsletter comes out. For those who helped out, thank you and I hope you had fun.

We have the nomination of officers coming at the August meeting. I’ve enjoyed my time as Commandant and hope someone will fill my seat who wants it. The job is not difficult but my job is behind time and I have to catch-up with my painting. I will not stay on. I will still do the Birthday Ball Ad Book however.

Speaking about the Birthday Ball Ad Book. I hope that our members will get at least one ad each for it. I have decided not to raise the rates and they will remain at $40, $60 and $100 for the 1/4, 1/2 and full page ads. We only have two months to fill the 60-page book. The book helps buy the pizzas we have after the meetings so go get you doctor (I did), your car dealer (I did again),your restaurant (I will) or dentist (mine is a government one, so no deal). Make them pay for the pizza!

That’s about it for now, let’s get busy and keep the Slattery Detachment in the forefront.

Semper Fi,
Tom Miller
