L/Cpl Robert J. Slattery

50th Year Anniversary of being KIA in Viet Nam on 6 July 1967

Robert J Slattery grew up in Whippany, NJ, his parents were Alice and John Slattery. His Dad was a retired Marine Corps Master Sgt. He had three sisters Alecia, Patricia and Nancy and three brothers, John, Billy & Michael.

He entered Parris Island, SC for Boot Camp on 21 January 1966 and was a member of Platoon 121, Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. He graduated from Boot Camp on 18 March 1966 and was then sent to Camp Geiger for I.T.R. (Infantry Training Regiment). After completing he was sent to his MOS school for additional training and received orders for Viet Nam.

He was then sent to Camp Pendleton, Ca for Staging Battalion for 2-3 weeks of Jungle Warfare training. Staging Battalion was pre-Vietnam preparation. Marines from various schools and MOSís were assembled and trained in Jungle operations prior to being sent to Vietnam.

Robert would arrive sometime in the Summer of 1966 and would be assigned to H&S Company 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division.
